I don't care about what Conservative rhetoric might tell people, this fight is not about public employees not paying their "fair share"; it's not even about money at all. It's about breaking up unions. I don't believe that unions are good 100% of the time, but I do believe that they do more good than harm; especially teachers unions. If you don't see why teachers unions matter, look at these statistics:
Only five (5) states do not have collective bargaining for educators and have deemed it illegal.
Those states and their rankings on ACT/SAT scores are as follows:
South Carolina-50th
North Carolina-49th
Georgia-48th
Texas-47th
Virginia-44th
Wisconsin, with its collective bargaining for teachers, is ranked #2 in the country. Say what you will about unions, but I think these numbers speak for themselves.
Please don't let this happen in your state; to your state's employees. Write to your members of congress and let them know how much you value teachers, firefighters, police officers, state troopers, EMTs, nurses, parks employees, water and sewer employees, animal control, and snow plow drivers.
