These are my countrymen? One of my favorite quotes is from Thomas Jefferson. He once said, "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, it expects to be what never was, and never will be."
I usually like to connect this quote to the importance of education--that education is a vital componant to individual and societal freedom. However, after seeing this clip today, I feel like our nation's ignorace has bound us politically. We have come to a point where rhetoric and propaganda has polarized our politics and turned us against each other, without really knowing why. I believe that we all want this country to be the best country in the world. I would like to believe that we all have faith in each other and that we can overcome some of our differences and make it so.
It doesn't feel good to judge; to put people down; to hate...
Our president campaigned on the belief-and promise-of hope.
My hope is that we all put aside our ignorance and our blind feelings of negativity toward other political beliefs, and work together to rebuild out country.
If not only for the good of our fellow Americans, but also for the good of our souls.
